.TH SEYON 1 \" -*- nroff -*-.SH NAMESeyon \- X11 Telecommunications Package..SH SYNOPSIS.B seyon[\-option ...] [\-toolkit_option ...] [\-\- \-emulator_option ...].SH DESCRIPTION.P \fISeyon\fP is a complete full-featured telecommunications package forthe \fIX Window System\fP. Some of its features are:.IP* Dialing directory that supports an unlimited number of entries. Thedirectory is fully mouse-driven and features call progress monitoring, dial timeout, automatic redial, multi-number dialing, and circularredial queue. Each item in the dialing directory can be configuredwith its own baud rate, bit mask, and script file. The dialingdirectory uses a plain-text phone book that can be edited from withenSeyon. Seyon also supports manual dialing..IP* Terminal emulation window supporting DEC VT02, Tektronix 4014, andANSI. Seyon delegates its terminal emulation to xterm, so all thefamiliar xterm functions such as the scroll-back buffer, cut-and-pasteutility, and visual bell are availabe through Seyon's terminalemulation window. Using xterm also means that Seyon has a morecomplete emulation of VT102 than other any Unix or DOStelecommunications program. Other terminal emulation programs can alsobe used with Seyon to suit the user's need; for example, color xtermcan be used to provide emulation for color ANSI (popular on many BBSsystems), and xvt can be used if memory is a bit tight..IP* Script language to automate tedious tasks such as logging intoremote hosts. Seyon's script interpreter uses plain-text files and hasa syntax similar to that of sh, with a few extra addtions. It supportsmany familiar statements such as conditional branching by\fIif\fP-\fIelse\fP and looping by \fIgoto\fP. Scripts may be assignedto items in the dialing directory for automatic execution after aconnection is made..IP* Unlimited number of slots for external file transfer protocols.Protocols are activated from a mouse-driven transfer console that usesa plain-text file, editable from withen Seyon, for protocolconfiguration. Seyon prompts the user for filenames only if the chosenprotocol requires filenames or if the transfer operation is an upload, for which Seyon also accepts wildcards. Multiple download directoriescan be specified for the different transfer slots..IP* Support for Zmodem auto-download. Seyon detects incoming Zmodemsignature and automatically activates a user-specified zmodem protocolto receive incoming files. Zmodem transfers can thus be completelyautomatic and require no user intervention..IP* Translation modes. Seyon can perfrom useful trasnlations on theuser's input. From example, Seyon can translate backspace to delete(useful on may Unix systems), newline to carriage return (useful onmany BBS hosts), and my favorite, meta key tranlation: to send keyspressed while the meta (ALT) key is held down as an escape (ESC)followed by the key press. The latter mode simulates the meta key onhosts that do not support 8-bit-clean connections and makes possiblethe use of the meta key in programs like Emacs on such hosts..IP* Other features: interactive setting of program parameters, on-linehelp, software (XONN/XOFF) and hardware (RTS/CTS) flow control, session capture to a file, and temporary running of a local shell inthe terminal emulation window..PSeyon is intended to be both simple and extensively configurable.Almost every aspect of Seyon can be configured via the resources tosuit the user's taste..SH OPTIONS.PBesides the toolkit options, Seyon recognizes the followingcommand-line switches:.TP.BI \-modems " <device-list>"Overrides the resource \fImodems\fP. Refer to the description of thatresource below. Unlike the resource, however, the list here has to bequoted if it consists of more than one entry..TP.BI \-emulator " <terminal-emulation-program>"Instructs Seyon to use the specified program as the terminal emulator. If Seyon fails to execute that program, it will fall back to xterm. Ifthis option is not given, Seyon will try to use seyon-emu, whichshould be a link to your favorite terminal emulation program. Seyonwill fall back to xterm in this case as well if it fails to executeseyon-emu..TP.B \-\-This switch instructs Seyon to pass the rest of the command-line tothe terminal emulation program. All options following this switch willbe passed blindly to the emulator. This switch cannot be combined with\-noemulator..TP.B \-nodefargs Seyon usually invokes the terminal emulation program with some optionsto set the application name and window and icon titles (those are\-name Seyon \-T "Seyon Terminal Emulator" \-n Terminal). If thisswitch is given, Seyon will not pass those options to the emulator. This is to accommodate terminal emulation programs that use adifferent command-line syntax than xterm -- like xvt, cmdtool, shelltool, ..etc. You can use the '--' switch to pass your own optionsto the emulator..TP.B \-noemulatorThis option is valid only if Seyon is invoked from withen a terminalemulation program in the foreground of an interactive shell session. If given, Seyon will not launch a new terminal emulator, but will usethe existing one instead. You cannot use the '--' switch if thisoption is given..TP.BI \-script " <script-file>"Causes Seyon to automatically executes the specified script after thestartup script is run. The specified script file will be looked foraccording to the rule mentioned under the description of the resource\fIscriptDirectory\fP below..TP.BI \-entries " <entries-list>"Overrides the resource \fIdefaultPhoneEntries\fP. Refer to thedescription of that resource below. Unlike the resource, however, thelist here has to be quoted if it consists of more than one entry..TP.BR \-dial ", " \-nodialOverrides the resource \fIdialAutoStart\fP and sets it to 'on' and'off', respectively. Refer to the description of that resource below. If both \fI-dial\fP and \fI-nodial\fP are specified on thecommand-line, the override value will be set according to the last ofthe two on the command-line..SH RESOURCES.PBesides the toolkit resources, Seyon defines the following proprietryresources:.TP.BI autoZmodem " (boolean)"Specifies whether Seyon is to look for Zmodem auto-download signature. If enabled, Seyon will detect incoming Zmodem signature and executethe action given by the resource autoZmodemAction (typically to starta local rz). Otherwise, Zmodem signature will be ignored..I Default value: on.TP.BI autoZmodemAction " (string)"Specifies a simple or compound action that will be executed whenZmodem auto-download signature is detected. This action will beexecuted only if the resource autoZmodem is enabled (see above). Referto the section entitled \fISeQuickKeys\fP for a description ofavailable actions..I Default value: ShellCommand($rz);.TP.BI backspaceTranslation " (boolean)"Whether to translate user's backspace to delete. When the remote hostis a Unix system, it's better to set this to \fIon\fP, since many Unixsystems are not happy with backspace..I Default value: off.TP.BI captureFile " (string)"The name of capture file. Seyon will write session captures to thisfile when capture is enabled. This file will be placed in Seyon'sdefault directory. The capture file will not be overwritten bysuccessive capture sessions. Seyon will merely apped new capture toits end. .I Default value: capture.TP .BI connectString " (string)"The modem connect string. This the string response the modem giveswhen a connection is made after dialing..I Default value: CONNECT.TP.BI defaultBits " (int)"The default number of bits (character size). Seyon will set the numberof bits to this value on startup and will use it for items in thedialing directory for which no such parameter is given. Valid valuesare 5, 6, 7, and 8..I Default value: 8.TP.BI defaultBPS " (string)"The default baud rate. Seyon will set the baud rate to this value onstartup and will use it for items in the dialing directory for whichno baud rate is given..I Default value: 9600.TP.BI defaultDirectory " (string)"Seyon's default directory. When looking for its files, Seyon willfirst try this default directory, then the current directory. Seyonwill also put the capture file in this directory..I Default value: ~/\.seyon.TP.BI defaultParity " (int)"The default parity. Seyon will set the parity to this value on startupand will use it for items in the dialing directory for which no suchparameter is given. Valid values are 0 (no parity), 1 (odd parity),and 2 (even parity)..I Default value: 0.TP.BI defaultPhoneEntries " (int array)"This resource specifies a list of numbers corresponding to the orderthe entries in the dialing directory appear at. Seyon will highlight(select) those entries on startup and whenever you click ``Default''from the dialing directory. This is useful if there is a set ofentries that you most frequesntly dial that want to be highlghtedautomatically instead of doing that every time by hand. You canoverride this resource by the \fI-entries\fP command-line switch.Unlike the command-line switch, however, the list here should not bequoted. Phonebook entries numbering starts at one..I No default value..TP.BI defaultStopBits " (int)"The default number of stop bits. Seyon will set the number of stopbits to this value on startup and will use it for items in the dialingdirectory for which no such parameter is given. Valid values are 1 and2..I Default value: 1.TP.BI dialAutoStart " (boolean)"This resource specifies that Seyon should start dialing the entriesspecified by the resource \fIdefaultPhoneEntries\fP (or its overridecommand-line switch) on startup. Seyon will commence dialing thoseentries after executing the startup script and any script specified atthe command line. A more convenient way of automatic dialing onstartup is to use the override command-line switch \fI-dial\fP, whichoverrides this resource and enables. If the resource is enabled, itcan be disabled at the command line by the override switch\fI-nodial\fP. Refer to the description of these switches above..I Default value: off.TP .BI dialCancelString " (string)"The string Seyon sends to the modem to cancel dialing while inprogress..I Default value: ^M.TP .BI dialDelay " (int)"How long in seconds Seyon should wait after no connection is madewithen \fIdialTimeOut\fP before ciculating to the next number..I Default value: 10.TP.BI dialDirFormat " (string)"This is a format string that specifies the layout of the dialingdirecotry. The default is '%-15s %-15s %6s %1c%1c%1c %1c%1c %s' (noquotes). Briefly: the fields represent the host name, number, thebaud rate, bits, parity, stop bits, whether there is a custom prefix, suffix, and the script name. You can understand more what each fieldrefers to by comparing with dialing directory, fields that use thecurrent setting (via the keyword CURRENT) are designated by a questionmark. Notice that you cannot change the order the items in the dialingdirectory appear at, only the format. For example, if the numbers youcall are all 7-digits, your host names are short, you never use baudrates above 9600, and you like dashes between the baud rate, bits, parity, and stop bits fields, then you may prefer to use the formatstring '%-10s %-8s %5s-%1c-%1c-%1c %1c%1c %s', which would be narrowerthan the default format..I Default value: %-15s %-15s %6s %1c%1c%1c %1c%1c %s.TP .BI dialPrefix " (string)"The string Seyon sends to the modem before the phone number. To usepulse dialing, set this resource to .IR ATDP ..I Default value: ATDT.TP .BI dialRepeat " (int)"How many times Seyon should try dialing a number. Seyon will give upon dialing a number if no connection is made after this many tries..I Default value: 5.TP .BI dialSuffix " (string)"The string Seyon sends to the modem after the phone number. Thisstring has to contain a carraige return or the number will never getsent to the mode..I Default value: ^M.TP .BI dialTimeOut " (int)"How long in seconds Seyon should wait for a connection to made afterdialing is complete. Seyon will cancel the dialing if no connection ismade withen this period..I Default value: 45.TP.BI exitConfirm " (boolean)"Whether Seyon should prompt for hanguping up before exiting. Ifoff-line and the resource ignoreModemDCD is set to 'off', Seyon willnot prompt for hanging up upon exiting even if this resource is set to'on', since it does not make sense to do so in this case..I Default value: on.TP.BI funMessages " (string array)"The fun messages to be displayed when Seyon has no other importantinformation to show. This should be a list of double-quoted [funny]sentences..I Default value: varies, version-dependent.TP.BI funMessagesInterval " (int)"The temporal interval in seconds between successive fun messages..I Default value: 15.TP.BI idleGuard " (boolean)"If set to on, Seyon will send a string to the remote host whenever theterminal session is idle (no keyboard input) for a given amount oftime. The resources \fIidleGuardInterval\fP and \fIidleGuardString\fPspecify the above time interval and the string to be sent to theremote host when idle. It is useful to enable this features to keepthe session alive when one is away from the computer for a while (e.g.to prevent auto-logout)..I Default value: off.TP.BI idleGuardInterval " (int)"The amount of time in seconds Seyon is to consider the session idlewhen there is no keyboard activity at the terminal for that long.Seyon will send a string to the remote host every such interval aslong as the session is idle..I Default value: 300.TP.BI idleGuardString " (string)"The string to be sent to the remote host when the session is idle. This string will be sent at a regular interval as long as the sesiionremains idle. Note that the current translations will be used insending this string; for example, if backspaceTranslation is enabled, then the default string <Space><BS> will be sent as <Space><DEL>..I Default value: \\\s^H(space then backspace).TP.BI ignoreModemDCD " (boolean)"If this resource is set to 'on', the modem DCD (Data Carrier Detect)status will be ignored. Some of the consequences of setting this to\'on\' is that Seyon will always prompt for hangup (if the resource\fIexitConfirm\fP is set to 'on') even if the modem DCD statusindicates that it is off-line, and dialing will be attempted even ifthe modem DCD status indicates that it is on-line. It is highlyrecommended that you keep this set to 'off' unless your modem does nothonor the DCD line. Consult your modem's manual for more details..I Default value: off.TP.BI hangupBeforeDial " (boolean)"When set to \fIon\fP, Seyon will hangup the line (if connected) beforedialing the phone number. Otherwise, the number will be dialed withouthanging up, and it is the user's responsibility to ensure that theline is clear (no connection) when dialing..I Default value: on.TP.BI hangupConfirm " (boolean)"Whether Seyon should ask for confirmation before hanging up the phone.I Default value: on.TP
