content="This example demonstrates the generation of two sine waves with two NI 5411 Arbitrary Waveform Generators. The NI 5411 modules are in Arb mode. Two similar sine waveforms created, differing only in phase, and downloaded to each NI 5411. The NI 5411 modules are synchronized as in the niFgen ARB Synchronize Example.vi. This example creates two waveforms, programmatically/mathematically placing the needed phase delay in the waveform generated by the slave module. The waveform generated by the slave module has different points and amplitudes than the waveform generated by the master module. If you look at the Create Sinewaves.vi sub VI, which creates the waveforms, the difference between the waveforms is clear. Especially at 10 MHz, where the difference is most noticeable with only 4 pts/cycle. Both waveforms are downloaded to the NI 5411 modules, and the start trigger on the master module is used to start the slave module. Also, a delay occurs when the master module triggers the slave module. In a PXI chassis, the delay is about ~25 ns. This delay is constant and adds a phase delay in itself. You can correct the delay by calculating the phase error that this delay causes for the frequency being generated, then add this value to the needed phase offset.
