<li><font size="3">This is a Product release of FlashBurn. It is the successor
to FlashBurn v2.60.</font></li>
<li><font size="3">This release is to be installed with Code Composer Studio
v2.1 or later.</font></li>

<h2><font size="3"><a name="Overview"></a>2. Overview</font></h2>
<ul>
<li><font size="3">FlashBurn is a tool for programming FLASH memory on TI's DSP development
boards. It also allows erasing and limited viewing/editing of FLASH memory contents. The
installation includes user-customizable target programs, with source code and detailed
documentation, to allow FlashBurn to work with custom DSP system configurations.</font></li>
<li><font size="3">FlashBurn works best (fastest) with PCI, Emulator, USB, and JTAG connection,
but will also work with parallel port connections, where
applicable.</font></li>

<h2><font size="3"><a NAME="System"></a>3. System Requirements</font></h2>

<li><font size="3">FlashBurn requires the following system setup:</font> <ul>
<li><font size="3">PC running Windows 98, NT (SP4 or later), Win2000,
WinME, or XP</font></li>
<li><font size="3">Code Composer Studio (C5000 and/or C6000) version 2.0
or later</font></li>
<li><font size="3">Texas Instruments DSP target board with flash memory </font></li>
</ul>

<h2><font size="3"><a NAME="Setup"></a>4. Setup / Installation</font></h2>

<li><font size="3">If you have an earlier version of FlashBurn installed on your system,
uninstall it:</font><ul>
<li><font size="3">If FlashBurn does not appear in the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel for
uninstalling, then you can use this FlashBurn installer to uninstall an older version. Run
the installer and click OK when it prompts you with "Do you want to completely remove
the selected...". This will uninstall the current FlashBurn. Running the installer
again will install the newer FlashBurn.</font></li>
</ul>

<li><font size="3">Once it is installed, FlashBurn will end up in the Code
Composer Studio root directory under <root>\bin\utilities\flashburn\ . </font></li>
<li><font size="3">See the GetStarted.txt (Notepad) file in the FlashBurn folder
for Quick Start and usage descriptions.</font></li>
<li><font size="3">If you have customized or written a new FBTC for a previous
version of FlashBurn, then it will be compatible with this version of
FlashBurn. There have been no changes to the communications protocol.</font></li>

entry from appearing in the CCS Tools Menu when CCS is connected to a

<li>No other changes were made, except to update the revision numbers.</li>

<li>Version 2.30 Release 01 April 2002
<ul>
<li>Repaired errors in the target code for DSK5416. The FBTC5416 and
FlashBlink5416 programs were changed to be more in line with the final
release package for DSK5416.</li>
<li>No other changes were made, except to update the revision numbers.</li>
</ul>

<li>Version 2.20 Release 21 February 2002
<ul>
<li>Added 64X as an allowed DSP, but no further support is provided. Users
who want to use FlashBurn with a 64X system will have to modify the
FBTC62 program to make it compatible with their custom board.</li>
<li>Made modifications to the dspSetup.asm file in the FBTC5416
program to allow more control at startup.</li>
</ul>

<li>Version 2.10 Release 25 October 2001
<ul>
<li>Increased the allowed time for flash memory erasure from 20 seconds to
32 seconds. This allows extra time when erasing larger capacity flash
memory chips.

<li>Added an example FBTC and FlashBlink program for dsk5416 board.

<li>BUG FIX

<li>Corrected address computation when posting the Write Error dialog.
This dialog appears if the logical address computed for data from
the input hex file will put the data outside of the range of the
