General Description The LM621 is a bipolar IC designed for commutation of brushless DC motors. The part is compatible with both three- and four-phase motors. It can directly drive the power switching devices used to drive the motor. The LM621 provides an adjustable dead-time circuit to eliminate ``shootthrough'' current spiking in the power switching circuitry. Operation is from a 5V supply, but output swings of up to 40V are accommodated. The part is packaged in an 18-pin, dual-in-line package.

ANALOG INPUT BANDWIDTH is a measure of the frequencyat which the reconstructed output fundamental drops3 dB below its low frequency value for a full scale input. Thetest is performed with fIN equal to 100 kHz plus integer multiplesof fCLK. The input frequency at which the output is −3dB relative to the low frequency input signal is the full powerbandwidth.APERTURE JITTER is the variation in aperture delay fromsample to sample. It is the change in theoutput code that occurs when the analog voltages on the twoinputs are changed by an equal amount. It is usually expressed in LSBs.

This reference design (RD) features a fullyassembled and tested surface-mount printed circuitboard (PCB).
