    The objective of this book is to allow the reader to predict the received signal power produced by a particular radio transmitter. The first two chapters examine propagation in free space for point-to-point and point-to-area transmission, respectively. This is combined with a dis- cussion regarding the characteristics of antennas for various purposes. In chapter 3, the EFFECT of obstacles, whether buildings or mountains, is discussed and analytical methods, whereby the strength of a signal is the shadow of an obstacle can be predicted, are presented.

  • Interference+Mitigation+Techniques

    This research work aims at eliminating the off-chip RF SAW filters from fre- quency division duplexed (FDD) receivers. In the first approach, a monolithic passive RF filter was constructed using on-chip capacitors and bondwire inductors. The bond- wire characteristics were studied in details and the EFFECT of mutual inductive coupling between the bondwires on the filter performance was analyzed. Based on that, a bond- wire configuration was proposed to improve the frequency response of the filter. The filter was implemented in 0.18 μm CMOS process for WCDMA applications.

  • Physical Layer Security in Wireless Communications

    The ever-increasing demand for private and sensitive data transmission over wireless net- works has made security a crucial concern in the current and future large-scale, dynamic, and heterogeneous wireless communication systems. To address this challenge, computer scientists and engineers have tried hard to continuously come up with improved crypto- graphic algorithms. But typically we do not need to wait too long to find an efficient way to crack these algorithms. With the rapid progress of computational devices, the current cryptographic methods are already becoming more unreliable. In recent years, wireless re- searchers have sought a new security paradigm termed physical layer security. Unlike the traditional cryptographic approach which ignores the EFFECT of the wireless medium, physi- cal layer security exploits the important characteristics of wireless channel, such as fading, interference, and noise, for improving the communication security against eavesdropping attacks. This new security paradigm is expected to complement and significantly increase the overall communication security of future wireless networks.

Over the past few decades, communication systems have increased in complexity to the point where system design and performance analysis can no longer be conducted without a significant level of computer sup- port. A significant degrading EFFECT in many of these systems was thermal noise, which was modeled using the additive Gaussian noise channel.

  • Time-Varying Channels

    Wireless communications has become a field of enormous scientific and economic interest. Recent success stories include 2G and 3G cellular voice and data services (e.g., GSM and UMTS), wireless local area networks (WiFi/IEEE 802.11x), wireless broadband access (WiMAX/IEEE 802.16x), and digital broadcast systems (DVB, DAB, DRM). On the physical layer side, traditional designs typically assume that the radio channel remains constant for the duration of a data block. However, researchers and system designers are increasingly shifting their attention to channels that may vary within a block. In addition to time dispersion caused by multipath propagation, these rapidly time-varying channels feature frequency dispersion resulting from the Doppler EFFECT. They are, thus, often referred to as being “doubly dispersive.”

It is not difficult to find that the main reason for the burglary is the habit of unlocking of doors caused by people's laziness and poor consciousness. Based on the single chip microcomputer of STC89C52, a device used with infrared sensor of human body is introduced in this paper, which can achieve the EFFECT of automatic closing and locking doors.
