Many of the pattern fi nding algorithms such as decision tree, classifi cation rules and clustering
techniques that are frequently used in data mining have been developed in machine learning
research community. Frequent pattern and association rule mining is one of the few excep-
tions to this tradition. The introduction of this technique boosted data mining research and its
impact is tremendous. The algorithm is quite simple and easy to implement. Experimenting
with Apriori-like algorithm is the fi rst thing that data miners try to do.
RFID is an area of automatic identifi cation that is gaining
momentum and is considered by some to emerge as one of
the most pervasive computing technologies in history. In its
simplest form, RFID is a similar concept to bar coding. It is
seen as a means of enhancing data processes and is comple-
mentary to existing technologies. It is a proven technology
that has been in use since the 1970s.

EDID includes vital information on the digitaldata formats that the sink device can accept. The HDMIspecifi cation requires that devices have less than 50pFof input capacitance on their DDC bus lines, which canbe very diffi cult to meet. The LTC®4300A’s capacitancebuffering feature allows devices to pass the HDMI DDCinput capacitance compliance test with ease.

During the past two decades, technological development related to telecommuni-
cation technologies has allowed organizations of all types and size to be able to de-
velop effective networking applications in support of information management. Fur-
thermore, telecommunication technologies combined with computer technology have
created the foundation of modern information technology which has affected all as-
pects of societal and organizational functions in our modern world.
The field of digital communication has evolved rapidly in the past few
decades, with commercial applications proliferating in wireline communi-
cation networks (e.g., digital subscriber loop, cable, fiber optics), wireless
communication (e.g., cell phones and wireless local area networks), and stor-
age media (e.g., compact discs, hard drives). The typical undergraduate and
graduate student is drawn to the field because of these applications, but is
often intimidated by the mathematical background necessary to understand
communication theory.
Convergence between the two largest networks (Telecom and IP) is taking place
very rapidly and at diff erent levels: (1) network level: unifi cation of IP networks
with traditional Telecom networks through evolving standards (Session Initiation
Protocol (SIP), Realtime Transfer Protocol (RTP), SS7, 3G) to support interopera-
bility; (2) service level: traditional Telecom services like voice calls are being provi-
sioned on the IP backbone (VoIP), while traditional IP services (most data-driven
services such as multimedia, browsing, chatting, gaming, etc.) are accessible over
the Telecom network.
