根據(jù)有無固定基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施，無線局域網(wǎng)又可分為BSS (Basic Service Set)和IBSS (Independent Basic Service Set)。我們要研究的ad hoc網(wǎng)絡(luò)屬于后者。假設(shè)在一個ad hoc網(wǎng)絡(luò)中，移動節(jié)點的發(fā)射功率PTx總是恒定的。要發(fā)送數(shù)據(jù)的移動節(jié)點總是先監(jiān)聽信道，測量接收到的信號功率X，其中X= I + N, I為接收到的干擾，N是噪聲。移動節(jié)點只有在X＜INThre時，才可以發(fā)射。式中，INThre為背景噪聲門限。 在仿真中，我們規(guī)定每個移動節(jié)點的發(fā)射功率是常數(shù)，PTx = 1W；接收節(jié)點接收機的靈敏度Smin = -80 dBm；信號質(zhì)量 min = 2 dB；系統(tǒng)的背景噪聲門限INThre = 1.2e-10。

As science advances, novel experiments are becoming more and more complex, requiring a zoo of control devices and electronics executing complicated sequences of steps. Device availability and monetary constrains usually lead to a highly heterogeneous setup with components from several different manufacturers using many different protocols and interfacing mechanisms. This often results in control software being puzzled together to use and provide a multitude of interfacing and control functionality, each using their own calling conventions, data structures, etc. To make matters worse, usually a group of relatively independent programmers is trying to write and maintain the code base. Often this causes extensive duplication of effort as program segments are hard to reuse, since unpredictable changes to the segments by the original authors might compromise other code using these segments.

The goal of our final project was to design an efficient elevator simulator that can accept input from a user and mechanically operate (on a small scale) a system of 4 floors and 3 elevators using pulleys and stepper motors. Users enter input using physical pushbuttons or the computer. This input is then processed by the MCU and orders are given to the elevators. We attempted to devise an algorithm that can optimally handle any number of floors. This project seemed like a fun challenge and something that had practical applications. Both of us have been frustrated at times by the inefficiency of some of the elevators here at Cornell, and we wanted to see if we could do a better job.
