The TMS320LF240xA and TMS320LC240xA devices, new members of the TMS320C24x generation of digital signal processor (DSP) controllers, are part of the TMS320C2000 platform of fixed-point DSPs. The 240xA devices offer the enhanced TMS320 DSP architectural design of the C2xx core CPU for low-cost, low-power, and high-performance processing capabilities. Several advanced peripherals, optimized for digital motor and motion control applications, have been integrated to provide a true single-chip DSP controller. While code-compatible with the existing C24x DSP controller devices, the 240xA offers increased processing performance (40 MIPS) and a higher level of peripheral integration. The XC226x derivatives are high-performance members of the Infineon XC2000 Family of full-feature single-chip CMOS microcontrollers. These devices extend the functionality and performance of the C166 Family in terms of instructions (MAC unit), peripherals, and speed. They combine high CPU performance (up to 80 million instructions per second) with extended peripheral functionality and enhanced IO capabilities. Optimized peripherals can be adapted flexibly to meet the application requirements. These derivatives utilize clock generation via PLL and internal or external clock sources. Quaternions are hypercomplex numbers (that is generalizations of the complex numbers to higher dimensions than two). For an introduction, refer to the Wikipedia article on Quaternions. Quaternion toolbox for Matlab® extends Matlab® to allow calculation with matrices of quaternions in almost the same way that one calculates with matrices of complex numbers. This is achieved by defining a private type to represent quaternion matrices and overloadings of many standard Matlab® functions. The toolbox supports real and complex quaternions (that is quaternions with four real or complex components).

H.264/AVC, the result of the collaboration between the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group and the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group, is the latest standard for video coding. The goals of this standardization effort were enhanced compression efficiency, network friendly video representation for interactive (video telephony) and non-interactive applications (broadcast, streaming, storage, video on demand). H.264/AVC provides gains in compression efficiency of up to 50% over a wide range of bit rates and video resolutions compared to previous standards. Compared to previous standards, the decoder complexity is about four times that of MPEG-2 and two times that of MPEG-4 Visual Simple Profile. This paper provides an overview of the new tools, features and complexity of H.264/AVC.
