The UCL common multimedia library implements a number of algorithms and protocols needed by a number of our applications. It compiles standalone on a range of Unix systems (Solaris, Linux, Irix, FreeBSD, MacOSX) and on Windows 95/98/NT/XP. The goal of our final project was to design an efficient elevator simulator that can accept input from a user and mechanically operate (on a small scale) a system of 4 floors and 3 elevators using pulleys and stepper motors. Users enter input using physical pushbuttons or the computer. This input is then processed by the MCU and orders are given to the elevators. We attempted to devise an algorithm that can optimally handle any number of floors. This project seemed like a fun challenge and something that had practical applications. Both of us have been frustrated at times by the inefficiency of some of the elevators here at Cornell, and we wanted to see if we could do a better job.

This paper presents a visual based localization mechanism for a legged robot. Our proposal, fundamented on a probabilistic approach, uses a precompiled topological map where natural landmarks like doors or ceiling lights are recognized by the robot using its on-board camera. Experiments have been conducted using the AIBO Sony robotic dog showing that it is able to deal with noisy sensors like vision and to approximate world models representing indoor ofce environments. The two major contributions of this work are the use of this technique in legged robots, and the use of an active camera as the main sensor

fwknop stands for "Firewall Knock Operator" and is an upcoming piece of software that will be released at the DEFCON 12 conference in July, 2004 in Las Vegas. fwknop implements network access controls (via iptables) based on a flexible port knocking mini-language, but with a twist it combines port knocking and passive operating system fingerprinting to make it possible to do things like only allow, say, Linux-2.4/2.6 systems to connect to your SSH daemon. fwknop supports shared, multi-protocol port knock sequences along with both relative and absolute timeouts, and coded port knock sequences encrypted with the Rijndael block cipher.
