PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The AD810 is a composite and HDTV compatible, current
feedback, video operational amplifier, ideal for use in systems
such as multimedia, digital tape recorders and video cameras.
The 0.1 dB flatness specification at bandwidth of 30 MHz
(G = +2) and the differential gain and phase of 0.02% and
0.04° (NTSC) make the AD810 ideal for any broadcast quality
video system. All these specifications are under load conditions
of 150 ? (one 75 ? back terminated Cable).
The AD810 is ideal for power sensitive applications such as
video cameras, offering a low power supply current of 8.0 mA
max. The disable feature reduces the power supply current to
only 2.1 mA, while the amplifier is not in use, to conserve
power. Furthermore the AD810 is specified over a power supply
range of ±5 V to ±15 V.
In recent years, cellular voice networks have transformed into powerful packet-switched
access networks for both voice communication and Internet access. Evolving Universal
Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) networks and first Long Term Evolution
(LTE) installations now deliver bandwidths of several megabits per second to individual
users, and mobile access to the Internet from handheld devices and notebooks is no
longer perceived as slower than a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or Cable connection.
Bandwidth and capacity demands, however, keep rising because of the increasing number
of people using the networks and because of bandwidth-intensive applications such as
video streaming. Thus, network manufacturers and network operators need to find ways
to continuously increase the capacity and performance of their cellular networks while
reducing the cost.
Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) networks have become mainstream over the last few years. What
started out as Cable replacement for static desktops in indoor networks has been extended
to fully mobile broadband applications involving moving vehicles, high-speed trains, and
even airplanes.
The field of digital communication has evolved rapidly in the past few
decades, with commercial applications proliferating in wireline communi-
cation networks (e.g., digital subscriber loop, Cable, fiber optics), wireless
communication (e.g., cell phones and wireless local area networks), and stor-
age media (e.g., compact discs, hard drives). The typical undergraduate and
graduate student is drawn to the field because of these applications, but is
often intimidated by the mathematical background necessary to understand
communication theory.
The insinuation of telecommunications into the daily fabric of our lives has been
arguably the most important and surprising development of the last 25 years. Before
this revolution, telephone service and its place in our lives had been largely stable
for more than a generation. The growth was, so to speak, lateral, as the global reach
of telecommunications extended and more people got telephone service. The
distinction between oversea and domestic calls blurred with the advances in
switching and transmission, undersea Cable, and communication satellites. Traffic
on the network remained overwhelmingly voice, largely in analog format with
facsimile (Fax) beginning to make inroads.
The dictionary definition of telecommunications is ‘communication over long
distance by Cable, telegraph, telephone or broadcasting’, but since its initiation over
100yearsagothingshavemovedrapidly.Telecommunicationsisnowaverycomplex
industrywithmanydifferentpressures,operatinginahighlydynamic environment.It
is best viewed as part of a wider industry known as information and communication
technology (ICT). The purpose of this chapter is to explain where telecommunication
fits in, to highlight some of the complexities – hopefully to simplify them – and to
position the industry in today’s dynamic business environment.
