Abstract: This application note describes how to design boost converters using the MAX17597 peakcurrent-mode controller. Boost converters can be operated in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) orcontinuous conduction mode (CCM). This operating mode can affect the component choices, stress levelin power devices, and controller design. Formulas for Calculating component values and ratingsare alsopresented.
Calculation of the Differential Impedance of Tracks on FR4 substrates
There is a discrepancy between calculated and measured values of impedance for differential transmission lineson FR4. This is especially noticeable in the case of surface microstrip configurations. The anomaly is shown tobe due to the nature of the substrate material. This needs to be considered as a layered structure of epoxy resinand glass fibre. Calculations, using Boundary Element field methods, show that the distribution of the electricfield within this layered structure determines the apparent dielectric constant and therefore affects theimpedance. Thus FR4 cannot be considered to be uniform dielectric when Calculating differential impedance.
This application report discusses the design of non-invasive optical plethysmographyalso called as pulsoximeter using the MSP430FG437 Microcontroller (MCU). Thepulsoximeter consists of a peripheral probe combined with the MCU displaying theoxygen saturation and pulse rate on a LCD glass. The same sensor is used for bothheart-rate detection and pulsoximetering in this application. The probe is placed on aperipheral point of the body such as a finger tip, ear lobe or the nose. The probeincludes two light emitting diodes (LEDs), one in the visible red spectrum (660nm) andthe other in the infrared spectrum (940nm). The percentage of oxygen in the body isworked by measuring the intensity from each frequency of light after it transmitsthrough the body and then Calculating the ratio between these two intensities.

The module LSQ is for unconstrained linear least-squares fitting. It is
based upon Applied Statistics algorithm AS 274 (see comments at the start
of the module). A planar-rotation algorithm is used to update the QR-
factorization. This makes it suitable for updating regressions as more
data become available. The module contains a test for singularities which
is simpler and quicker than Calculating the singular-value decomposition.
An important feature of the algorithm is that it does not square the condition
number. The matrix X X is not formed. Hence it is suitable for ill-
conditioned problems, such as fitting polynomials.
By taking advantage of the MODULE facility, it has been possible to remove
many of the arguments to routines. Apart from the new function VARPRD,

as in AS 274.
The objective of this projectis to design, model and simulate an autocorrelation
generator circuit using 4-bit LFSR. the register and LFSR will used D flip-flop and some
gates. By the autocorrelation concept, there should be 2 same length vectors, for Calculating
the autocorrelation , we have to design the register for storing the original vector and the
shifter for make time delay.
