methods and the theory behind them.
Statistical methods for categorical responses were late in gaining the level
of sophistication achieved early in the twentieth century by methods for
continuous responses. Despite influential work around 1900 by the British
statistician Karl Pearson, relatively little development of models for categorical
responses occurred until the 1960s. In this book we describe the early

Sequential Monte Carlo without Likelihoods

本文摘要:Recent new methods in Bayesian simulation have provided ways of evaluating posterior distributions
in the presence of analytically or computationally intractable likelihood functions.
Despite representing a substantial methodological advance, existing methods based on rejection
sampling or Markov chain Monte Carlo can be highly inefficient, and accordingly
require far more iterations than may be practical to implement. Here we propose a sequential
Monte Carlo sampler that convincingly overcomes these inefficiencies. We demonstrate
its implementation through an epidemiological study of the transmission rate of tuberculosis.

GloptiPoly 3: moments, optimization and
semidefinite programming.
Gloptipoly 3 is intended to solve, or at least approximate, the Generalized Problem of
Moments (GPM), an infinite-dimensional optimization problem which can be viewed as
an extension of the classical problem of moments [8]. From a theoretical viewpoint, the
GPM has developments and impact in various areas of mathematics such as algebra,
Fourier analysis, functional analysis, operator theory, probability and statistics, to cite
a few. In addition, and Despite a rather simple and short formulation, the GPM has a
large number of important applications in various fields such as optimization, probability,
finance, control, signal processing, chemistry, cristallography, tomography, etc. For an

The literature of cryptography has a curious history. Secrecy, of course, has always played a central
role, but until the First World War, important developments appeared in print in a more or less
timely fashion and the field moved forward in much the same way as other specialized disciplines.
As late as 1918, one of the most influential cryptanalytic papers of the twentieth century, William F.
Friedman’s monograph The Index of Coincidence and Its Applications in Cryptography, appeared as
a research report of the private Riverbank Laboratories [577]. And this, Despite the fact that the work
