It offers a set of high level classes that give java easy access to functionality widely missed by java programmers and also lets you dive deeper into the interiors of Windows core api for 2D media. On the java side dsj tries to keep things open as possible - you may use it standalone or let it feed data into JMF or other APIs.

IEEE1394分為兩種傳輸方式:Backplane模式和Cable模式。Backplane模式最小的速率也比USB1.1最高速率高，分別為12.5 Mbps 、25 Mbps、50 Mbps，可以用于多數的高帶寬應用。Cable模式是速度非常快的模式，分為100 Mbps、200 Mbps和400 Mbps幾種，在200Mbps下可以傳輸不經壓縮的高質量數據電影。 IEEE 1394a-2000(Firewire 400)和IEEE 1394-1995幾乎相同，改良數個地方之后制定的新規格。為了和后述的IEEE 1394b分別，因此稱為"Firewire 400"。在工業上使用的時候，有時就單純稱呼為".a"。
