Abstract:
In order to reduce cost and resolve the interferential problem with PC in existing patch clamp amplifiers, a small patch clamp amplifier system design based on microcontroller is studied. It adopts a new high performance microconverter ADuC841 by the ADI as the control core in the system, configuring a liquid crystal module LCM3202401. In the analog circuit, AD8627 with high input impedance is used to detect the low current，signal magnification, as well as resistance and capacitance compensation are accomplished by subsequent circuits. It has the advantage of simple hardware circuit design, small volume and convenient operation. It can either be used as an independent system to measure and show signal detected or transmit to PC by INFRARED ray.
This application report discusses the design of non-invasive optical plethysmographyalso called as pulsoximeter using the MSP430FG437 Microcontroller (MCU). Thepulsoximeter consists of a peripheral probe combined with the MCU displaying theoxygen saturation and pulse rate on a LCD glass. The same sensor is used for bothheart-rate detection and pulsoximetering in this application. The probe is placed on aperipheral point of the body such as a finger tip, ear lobe or the nose. The probeincludes two light emitting diodes (LEDs), one in the visible red spectrum (660nm) andthe other in the INFRARED spectrum (940nm). The percentage of oxygen in the body isworked by measuring the intensity from each frequency of light after it transmitsthrough the body and then calculating the ratio between these two intensities.

The compressed signalprocessing range mandates a commensurate reductionin reference noise to maintain resolution. Noise ultimatelytranslates into quantization uncertainty in A to D converters,introducing jitter in applications such as scales, inertialnavigation systems, INFRARED thermography, DVMs andmedical imaging apparatus. A new low voltage reference,the LTC6655, has only 0.3ppm (775nV) noise at 2.5VOUT.Figure 1 lists salient specifi cations in tabular form. Accuracyand temperature coeffi cient are characteristic ofhigh grade, low voltage references. 0.1Hz to 10Hz noise,particularly noteworthy, is unequalled by any low voltageelectronic reference.
