This preface is somewhat different from prefaces found in Similar books because it does not
focus so much on the content of the book.We have instead chosen to write a few words about
our own experiences from working with telephony services over Internet Protocol (IP). Here
are our stories.
Mobilenetworkoperatorswillmeetmanychallengesinthecomingyears.Itisexpectedthatthe
numberofpeopleconnected,wirelineandwireless,willreachfivebillionby2015.Atthesame
time, people use more wireless services and they expect Similar user experience to what they
can now get from fixed networks. Because of that we will see a hundred-fold increase in
network traffic in the near future. At the same time markets are saturating and the revenue per
bit is dropping.
Commoditization is a serious threat to the telecommunications industry. Most CSPs offer
Similar services at rates designed to win what has become a price war. As a result, many
face decreasing margins and difficulty sustaining differentiation based on prices or
products alone. On top of commoditization, CSPs also face competition from OTT
providers and an increasingly knowledgeable and demanding customer base. With
access to growing amounts of data from an ever-increasing number of sources and
devices, today’s empowered, savvy consumers know what they want and expect to get it.
Wireless networking is undergoing a transformation from what has
been primarily a medium for supporting voice traffic between telephones,
into what is increasingly becoming a medium for supporting traffic among
a variety of digital devices transmitting media of many types (voice,
data, images, video. etc.) Wireline networking underwent a Similar
transformation in the 1990s, which led to an enormous build-up in the
capacity of such networks, primarily through the addition of new optical
fiber, switches and other infrastructure.
Contamination and electrostatic discharge (ESD) are now becoming recognized as factors
affecting yield and reliability in an ever-increasing number of industries. Whereas contam-
ination traditionally was recognized as affecting the semiconductor, disk drive, aerospace,
pharmaceutical, and medical device industries, today such industries as automobile and
food production are also discovering the benefits of contamination control. ESD control
has experienced a Similar growth in applications.
In this book for the optimisation of assembly conveyor lines we are dealing with series part production
featured by a medium complexity degree and a medium number of individual components and assembly
technique alternatives. Modern production techniques for medium to large series products or mass
production usually involve assembly conveyor lines. They still use hand labour more or less automated.
The aim is to have monotonous and Similar in type operations or such causing fatigue, stress and
production traumas, gradually replaced by automated assembly cycles, means and techniques. This
usually widely involves industrial robots and handlers. Higher productivity, lower cost and higher quality
of assembled products are usually required.
