This paper describes a bus mastering implementation of the PCI Express protocol using a Xilinx FPGA. While the theoretical peak performance of PCI Express is quite high, attaining that performance is a complex endeavor on top of an already complex protocol. The implementation is described and its performance is analyzed. Source code is offered for free download via the web.
C++ is a programming language. It is a programming language of many
different dialects, just like each language that is spoken has many dialects. In C though, they are not because the "speakers" live in the North, South, or grew up in some other place, it is because there are so many compilers. There are about four major ones: Borland C++, Microsoft Visual C++, Watcom C/386, and DJGPP. You can download DJGPP http://www.delorie.com/djgpp/ or you may already have another compiler.
Each of these compilers is a little different. The library functions of one will have all of the standard C++ functions, but they will also have other functions or, continuing the analogy, words. At times, this can lead to confusion, as certain programs will only run under certain compilers, though I do not believe this to be the case with the programs in these tutorials.
C programming is a craft that takes years to perfect. A reasonably sharp person can learn the basics of
C quite quickly. But it takes much longer to master the nuances of the language and to write enough
programs, and enough different programs, to become an expert. In natural language terms, this is the
difference between being able to order a cup of coffee in Paris, and (on the Metro) being able to tell anative Parisienne where to get off. This book is an advanced text on the ANSI C programming
language. It is intended for people who are already writing C programs, and who want to quickly pick
up some of the insights and techniques of experts.
We review the current applications of photonic technologies to Smart Cities. Inspired
by the future needs of Smart Cities, we then propose potential applications of advanced
photonic technologies. We find that photonics already has a major impact on Smart
Cities, in terms of smart lighting, sensing, and communication technologies. We further
find that advanced photonic technologies could lead to vastly improved infrastructure,
such as smart water‐supply systems. We conclude by proposing directions for future
research that will have the greatest impact on realizing Smart City initiatives.
Much of Game Theory has developed within the community of Economists,
starting from the book “Theory of Games and Economic behavior” by Mor-
genstern and Von Neumann (1944). To a lesser extent, it has had an impact on
biology (with the development of evolutionarygames) and on road traffic Engi-
neering (triggered by the concept of Wardrop equilibrium introduced already
in 1952 along with the Beckmann potential approach introduced in 1956).
Since 1999 game theory has had a remarkable penetration into computer sci-
ence with the formation of the community of Algorithmic game theory.

deployed worldwide as both local area networks (LANs) and metro-

of mesh will be – particularly as the market moves from early adopters
towards widespread take up.
The information technology (IT) revolution is surely coming in this century, just
as did the agricultural and industrial revolutions that have already so enriched our
lives. As the IT revolution progresses, it is expected that almost all social struc-
tures and economic activities will be changed substantially
Our original effort in writing this book was to create a starting point for those in
the business community who did not have a high level of technical expertise but
needed to have some understanding of the technical functions of their information
and communication technologies (ICT) in a corporate environment. As was true
with the first edition of this book, if you are already an engineer, find some other
form of pleasure reading—this text is not designed for you!
