Cognitive radio has emerged as a promising technology for maximizing the utiliza- tion of the limited radio bandwidth while accommodating the increasing amount of services and applications in wireless networks. A cognitive radio (CR) transceiver is able to adapt to the dynamic radio environment and the network parameters to maximize the utilization of the limited radio resources while providing flexibility in wireless access. The key features of a CR transceiver are awareness of the radio envi- ronment (in terms of spectrum usage, power spectral density of transmitted/received signals, wireless protocol signaling) and intelligence.

In the nineteenth century, scientists, mathematician, engineers and innovators started investigating electromagnetism. The theory that underpins wireless communications was formed by Maxwell. Early demonstrations took place by Hertz, Tesla and others. Marconi demonstrated the first wireless transmission. Since then, the range of applications has expanded at an immense rate, together with the underpinning technology. The rate of development has been incredible and today the level of technical and commercial maturity is very high. This success would not have been possible without understanding radio- wave propagation. This knowledge enables us to design successful systems and networks, together with waveforms, antennal and transceiver architectures. The radio channel is the cornerstone to the operation of any wireless system.

In this first part of the book the Vienna Link Level (LL) Simulators are described. The first chapter provides basics of LL simulations, introduces the most common variables and parameters as well as the transceiver structures that are applied in Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and Long-Term Evolution-Advanced (LTEA). We focus here mostly on the Downlink (DL) of LTE as most results reported in later chapters are related to DL transmissions.

This book is concerned with integrated circuits and systems for wireless and mobile communications. Circuit techniques and implementation of reconfigurable low-voltage and low-power single-chip CMOS transceivers for multiband and multi- mode universal wireless communications are the focus of the book. Applications encompass both long-range mobile cellular communications (GSM and UMTS) and short-range wireless LANs (IEEE802.11 and Bluetooth). Recent advances in research into transceiver architecture, RF frontend, analogue baseband, RF CAD and automatic testing are reported.

Over many years, RF-MEMS have been a hot topic in research at the technology and device level. In particular, various kinds of mechanical Si-MEMS resonators and piezoelectric BAW (bulk acoustic wave) resonators have been developed. The BAW technology has made its way to commercial products for passive RF filters, in particular for duplexers in RF transceiver front ends for cellular communica- tions. Beyond their use in filters, micromachined resonators can also be used in conjunction with active devices in innovative circuits and architectures.

It has the advantages of realtime, high reliability and low cost. In view of this,this paper introduces the design of CAN bus communication node by using Freescale MC9S12XS128 as controller,using its internal MSCAN module,CAN transceiver TJA1040 and other peripheral components. This design can realize the sending and receiving of CAN bus data,and can be used in automobile and other CAN bus communication systems.
