Craig Hollabaugh has been fascinated by electronics since he bought an AM radio in elementary school. He was first exposed to Unix during a cross-country talk session in 1985. Later, he administered networked Sun and DEC workstations while pursuing a doctoral degree in electrical engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology.

Atmel’s AT91SAM7FP105 is a low pincount FingerChip processor based on the 32-bit ARM
RISC processor. It features a on-chip biometric engine performing enrollment verification and
identification, an internal record cache of up to 25 records and a secure command protocol over
USB, SPI, UART. This protocol enables an external host system or processor to control the onchip
bioengine functions, manipulate the record cache, and securely export record cache
records for external storage. Together with the FingerChip sensor device AT77C104B, it forms

This the first release of a free TCP/IP/PPP protocol stack for the uC/OS Real-Time Operating System. As a first release it s still rather rough and very much larger than desired however it is working well in an embedded product and therefore may be useful to others. Much of the code is ported from public sources including BDS Lite and KA9Q (and its derivatives) and carries copyright notices from those sources. Essentially TCP is based on KA9Q but with ideas from BSD, IP is a simple implementation supporting BSD structures, ICMP is ported from BSD, and PPP is ported from the BSD version of the distribution common to BSD, Linux, and many other systems
The widespread use of embedded systems mandates the development of industrial software design methods, i.e. computer-aided design and engineering of embedded applications using formal models (frameworks) and standardized prefabricated components, much in the same way as in other mature areas of engineering such as mechanical engineering and electronics. These guidelines have been used to develop Component-based Design of Software for Embedded Systems (COMDES). The paper gives an overview of the COMDES framework, followed by a presentation of a generic component types, such as function blocks, activities and function units. The execution of function units is discussed in the context of a newly developed execution model, i.e. timed-multitasking, which has been extended to distributed embedded systems.
