Firmware in embedded hardware systems is Frequently updated over the Ethernet. For
embedded systems that comprise a discrete microprocessor and the devices it controls, the
firmware is the software image run by the microprocessor. When the embedded system
includes an FPGA, firmware updates include updates of the hardware image on the FPGA. If
the FPGA includes a Nios® II soft processor, you can upgrade both the Nios II processor—as
part of the FPGA image—and the software that the Nios II processor runs, in a single remote
configuration session.

Frequently, voltage reference stability and noise defi nemeasurement limits in instrumentation systems. In particular,reference noise often sets stable resolution limits.Reference voltages have decreased with the continuingdrop in system power supply voltages, making referencenoise increasingly important. The compressed signalprocessing range mandates a commensurate reductionin reference noise to maintain resolution. Noise ultimatelytranslates into quantization uncertainty in A to D converters,introducing jitter in applications such as scales, inertialnavigation systems, infrared thermography, DVMs andmedical imaging apparatus. A new low voltage reference,the LTC6655, has only 0.3ppm (775nV) noise at 2.5VOUT.Figure 1 lists salient specifi cations in tabular form. Accuracyand temperature coeffi cient are characteristic ofhigh grade, low voltage references. 0.1Hz to 10Hz noise,particularly noteworthy, is unequalled by any low voltageelectronic reference.

In each step the LZSS algorithm sends either a character or a <position, length> pair. Among these, perhaps character "e" appears more Frequently than "x", and a <position, length> pair of length 3 might be commoner than one of length 18, say. Thus, if we encode the more frequent in fewer bits and the less frequent in more bits, the total length of the encoded text will be diminished. This consideration suggests that we use Huffman or arithmetic coding, preferably of adaptive kind, along with LZSS.

OpenSS7 This the fourth public release of the OpenSS7 Master Package. See README in the release for a sub-package listing. Most of the sub-packages in the release are production grade for Linux Fast-STREAMS. All existing validation test suites run clean on supported distributions and architectures.
It is unlikely that the OpenSS7 Master Package will be released as Frequently as before. Sub-packages will be released more often. To rebuild the master package with a new sub-package release, simply replace the directory to which the sub-package belongs with the unpacked sub-package release and then rebuild the master package. This release provides support for recent distributions and tool chains.
