Reconstruction- and example-based super-resolution
(SR) methods are promising for restoring a high-resolution
(HR) image from low-resolution (LR) image(s). Under large
magnification, reconstruction-based methods usually fail
to hallucinate visual details while example-based methods
sometimes introduce unexpected details. Given a generic
LR image, to reconstruct a photo-realistic SR image and
to suppress artifacts in the reconstructed SR image, we
introduce a multi-scale dictionary to a novel SR method
that simultaneously integrates local and non-local priors.
The local prior suppresses artifacts by using steering kernel regression to predict the target pixel from a small local
area. The non-local prior enriches visual details by taking
a weighted average of a large neighborhood as an estimate
of the target pixel. Essentially, these two priors are complementary to each other. Experimental results demonstrate
that the proposed method can Produce high quality SR recovery both quantitatively and perceptually.
Accurate pose estimation plays an important role in solution of simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) problem, required for many robotic applications. This paper presents a new approach called R-SLAM, primarily to overcome systematic and non-systematic odometry errors which are generally caused by uneven floors, unexpected objects on the floor or wheel-slippage due to skidding or fast turns. The hybrid approach presented here combines the strengths of feature based and grid based methods to Produce globally consistent high resolution maps within various types of environments.
This book presents millimeter wave communication system design and analysis at the
level to Produce an understanding of the interaction between a wireless system and its
front end so that the overall performance can be predicted. Gigabit wireless commu-
nications require a considerable amount of bandwidth, which can be supported by
millimeter waves. Millimeter wave technology has come of age, and at the time of
writing the standards of IEEE 802.15.3c, WiGig, Wireless HD TM , and the European
Computer Manufacturers Association have recently been finalized.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) events can have serious detrimental
effects on the manufacture and performance of microelectronic devices,
the systems that contain them, and the manufacturing facilities used to
Produce them. Submicron device technologies, high system operating
speeds, and factory automation are making ESD control programs a
critical factor in the quality and reliability of ESD-sensitive products.
This text, ESD Basics: From Semiconductor Manufacturing to Product Use was initiated on
the need to Produce a text that addresses fundamentals of electrostatic discharge from the
manufacturing environment to today’s products. As the manufacturing world evolves, semi-
conductor networks scale, and systems are changing, the needs and requirements for reliabi-
lity and ESD protection are changing. A text is required that connects basic ESD phenomena
to today’s real world environment.
Sound is simply an airborne version of vibration. The air which carries sound is a mixture
of gases. In gases, the molecules contain so much energy that they break free from
their neighbors and rush around at high speed. As Figure 1.1(a) shows, the innumerable
elastic collisions of these high-speed molecules Produce pressure on the walls of any
gas container. If left undisturbed in a container at a constant temperature, eventually the
pressure throughout would be constant and uniform.
