Writing essays and dissertations can be a major concern for overseas students studying at English-medium colleges and universities. Virtually all courses contain a large degree of written assessment and it is essential to ensure that your writing skills meet the necessary standard. Academic Writing is a new kind of writing course for all international students who have to write exams or coursework in English. This practical book thoroughly explains the writing process and covers all the key writing skills.
This book has grown out of my teaching and research at the University of Surrey and out of
my previous experiences in companies such as Philips, Ascom and Motorola. It is
primarily intended for use by students in master’s level and enhanced final-year under-
graduate courses who are specialising in communication systems and wish to understand
the principles and current practices of the wireless communication channel, including both
antenna and propagation aspects
This book describes the applications of the fundamental interactions of
electromagnetic waves and materials as described in the preceding volume, “Basic
Electromagnetism and Materials”. It is addressed to students studying masters or
doctorate courses in electronics, electromagnetism, applied physics, materials
physics, or chemical physics. In particular, this volume analyzes the behavior of
materials in the presence of an electromagnetic field and related applications in the
fields of electronics, optics, and materials physics.
This book stems from its ancestor Digital Transmission Theory, published by
Prentice-Hall in 1987 and now out of print. Following the suggestion of several colleagues who complained about the unavailability of a textbook they liked and adopted in their courses, laying a strong emphasis on wireless communication. We hope that those who liked the previous book will find again its flavor here, while new reader, untouched by nostalgia, will judge it favorably.
This edition updates and continues the series of books based on the residential
courses on radiowave propagation organised by the IEE/IET.
The first course was held in 1974, with lectures by H. Page, P. Matthews,
D. Parsons, M.W. Gough, P.A. Watson, E. Hickin, T. Pratt, P. Knight, T.B. Jones,
P.A. Bradley, B. Burgess and H. Rishbeth.
An understanding of the policies, regulations, standards and techniques of radio spectrum
management is useful to those who manage and administrate it, to operators, to equipment
providers and to the users of wireless communication (i.e., all of us). For many years the author
has been deeply involved in ruling the RF spectrum at the national, regional and global levels.
The book is based on the professional experience of the author, his academic courses, presenta-
tions and tutorials in five continents. The book reflects this legacy and will be of use to engineers,
lawyers and economists, who serve the global industry of the wireless world; in it they may find
solutions to the problems they frequently encounter.
Some tine ago it become apparent the the first edition of this book was rapidly approaching its sell-by date, since many aspects needed revise. There were two obvious courses of action : to forget the whole thing and concentrate my energies on other pursuits such as golf or fishing, or to embark on a new edition. For several reasons Iwas persuaded that a new edition was a worthwhile endeavour;many people had made complimentary remakrs or written complinentary letters about the first edition and I understood that it had become a recommended text for several postgraduate coures.
This book on electrostatic discharge phenomena is essentially a translation and
update ofa Swedish edition from 1992.
The book is intended for people working with electronic circuits and
equipments, in application and development. All personnel should be aware of the
ESD-hazards, especially those responsible for quality. ESD-prevention is a part of
TQM (Total Quality Management). The book is also usable for courses on the
subject.
In writing this text my intention was to collect together in a single place
practical predictive modeling techniques, ideas and strategies that have been
proven to work but which are rarely taught in business schools, data science
courses or contained in any other single text.
