The need for accurate monitoring and analysis of sequential data arises in many scientic, industrial
and nancial problems. Although the Kalman lter is effective in the linear-Gaussian
case, new methods of dealing with sequential data are required with non-standard models.
Recently, there has been renewed interest in simulation-based techniques. The basic idea behind
these techniques is that the current state of knowledge is encapsulated in a representative
sample from the appropriate posterior distribution. As time goes on, the sample evolves and
adapts recursively in accordance with newly acquired data. We give a critical review of recent
developments, by reference to oil well monitoring, ion channel monitoring and tracking
problems, and propose some alternative algorithms that avoid the weaknesses of the current
methods.

This article describes a sniffer for Windows. WinSniff is an application for capturing packets on the network. It displays all the packets that are transmitted on the local network and gives detailed information about each header in the packet. In order to keep it simple, I am not dealing with application level protocols. JLAB is a set of Matlab functions I have written or co-written over the past fifteen years for the purpose of analyzing data. It consists of four hundred m-files spanning thirty thousand lines of code. JLAB includes functions ranging in complexity from one-line aliases to high-level algorithms for certain specialized tasks. These have been collected together and made publicly available for you to use, modify, and --- subject to certain very reasonable constraints --- to redistribute.
Some of the highlights are: a suite of functions for the rapid manipulation of multi-component, potentially multi-dimensional datasets a systematic way of dealing with datasets having components of non-uniform length tools for fine-tuning figures using compact, straightforward statements and specialized functions for spectral and time / frequency analysis, including advanced wavelet algorithms developed by myself and collaborators.

This control is another extension to the now standard and widely used ListView control. I have included some of the more common features: shaded columns, column sorting (with data type), but the real addition is the FILTERBAR features of the header. This implementation eliminates all of the work of dealing with the filter messages and item filtering by incorporating it into the control. This could have been implemented as delegates, but we create controls to do the work for us, don t we? I would like to thank Carlos H. Perez since a lot of the implementation came from examples he set with his ListViewEx control.

The use of FPGAs for cryptographic applications is highly attractive for a variety of reasons but at the same time there are many open issues related to the general security of FPGAs. This contribution attempts to provide a state-of-the-art description of this topic. First, the advantages of reconfigurable hardware for cryptographic applications are discussed from a systems perspective. Second, potential security problems of FPGAs are described in detail, followed by a proposal of a some countermeasure. Third, a list of open research problems is provided. Even though there have been many contributions dealing with the algorithmic
aspects of cryptographic schemes implemented on FPGAs, this contribution appears to be the first comprehensive treatment of system and security aspects.

With the advent of IMT-2000, CDMA has emerged at the focal point of
interest in wireless communications. Now it has become impossible to discuss
wireless communications without knowing the CDMA technologies. There are
a number of books readily published on the CDMA technologies, but they are
mostly dealing with the traditional spread-spectrum technologies and the IS-95
based CDMA systems. As a large number of novel and interesting technologies
have been newly developed throughout the IMT-2000 standardization process
in very recent years, new reference books are now demanding that address the
diverse spectrum of the new CDMA technologies.
