This thesis presents a comprehensive overview of the problem of facial recognition. A survey of available facial detection algorithms as well as implementation and tests of di鏗€erent feature extraction and dimensionality reduction methods and light normalization methods are presented.
This application report discusses the design of non-invasive optical plethysmography
also called as pulsoximeter using the MSP430FG437 Microcontroller (MCU). The
pulsoximeter consists of a peripheral probe combined with the MCU displaying the
oxygen saturation and pulse rate on a LCD glass. The same sensor is used for both
heart-rate detection and pulsoximetering in this application. The probe is placed on a
peripheral point of the body such as a finger tip, ear lobe or the nose. The probe
includes two light emitting diodes (LEDs), one in the visible red spectrum (660nm) and
the other in the infrared spectrum (940nm). The percentage of oxygen in the body is
worked by measuring the intensity from each frequency of light after it transmits
through the body and then calculating the ratio between these two intensities.
Text mining tries to solve the crisis of information overload by combining techniques from data mining, machine learning, natural language processing, information retrieval, and knowledge management. In addition to providing an in-depth examination of core text mining and link detection algorithms and operations, this book examines advanced pre-processing techniques, knowledge representation considerations, and visualization approaches. Finally, it explores current real-world, mission-critical applications of text mining and link detection in such varied fields as M&A business intelligence, genomics research and counter-terrorism activities.
The Hilbert Transform is an important component in communication systems, e.g. for single sideband modulation/demodulation, amplitude and phase detection, etc. It can be formulated as filtering operation which makes it possible to approximate the Hilbert Transform with a digital filter. Due to the non-causal and infinite impulse response of that filter, it is not that easy to get a good approximation with low hardware resource usage. Therefore, different filters with different complexities have been implemented.
