For a variety of reasons, it is desirable to charge batteriesas rapidly as possible. At the same time, overchargingmust be limited to prolong battery life. Such limitation ofovercharging depends on factors such as the choice ofcharge termination technique and the use of multi-rate/multi-stage charging schemes. The majority of batterycharger ICs available today lock the user into one fixedcharging regimen, with at best a limited number ofcustomization options to suit a variety of application needsor battery types. The LTC®1325 addresses these shortcomingsby providing the user with all the functionalblocks needed to implement a simple but highly flexiblebattery charger (see Figure 1) which not only addressesthe issue of charging batteries but also those of batteryconditioning and capacity monitoring.

The MC68HC05K0 is a low cost, low pin countsingle chip microcomputer with 504 bytes of userROM and 32 bytes of RAM. The methodology and design guidelinesare developed.By using a boost PFC circuit as an example, an equivalent circuit model is builtfor EMI noise prediction and analysis. The parasitic elements of circuit layout andcomponents are extracted analytically or by using CAD tools. Based on the model, circuitlayout and magnetic component design are modified to minimize circuit EMI. EMI filtercan be designed at an early stage without prototype implementation.In the second part, thermal analyses are conducted for the circuit by using thesoftware Flotherm, which includes the mechanism of conduction, convection andradiation. Thermal models are built for the components. Thermal performance of thecircuit and the temperature profile of components are predicted. Improved thermalmanagement and winding arrangement are investigated to reduce temperature.In the third part, several circuit layouts and inductor design examples are checkedfrom both the EMI and thermal point of view. Insightful information is obtained.

When the program is not built from the ground up using the DSP/BIOS kernel and real-time analysis features, the lack of familiarity prevents engineers from reaping the benefits of this very powerful tool set, especially in the final stage of development when real-time analysis is needed most. This application note provides an example of the necessary steps required to utilize DSP/BIOS features in order to bring these solutions to bear in an existing application.

a3load is 8051 firmware that can be used for uploading or downloading to EZ-USB RAM (internal or external). It implements the vendor specific command bRequest = 0xA3. The address to download/upload to/from is specified in the wValue field of the SETUP packet and the length of the transfer in the wLength field. The actual upload/download data is transferred during the DATA stage of the SETUP transfer. This firmware will function on all EZ-USB chips (EZ-USB, EZ-USB FX, FX2, FX2LP, FX1).

The Viterbi algorithm is the same as the binary case with one main difference: The survivor sequences include the uncoded bits, which are decided at each trellis stage when selecting one of two parallel branches with the largest correlation metric. Presently, only 8-PSK modulation is considered. Extensions to higher-order modulations can be implemented following a similar procedure.
