Abstract-The effect of the companding process on QAM signals has been under investigation for the past several years. The compander, included in the PCM telephone network to improve voice performance, has an unusual affect on digital QAM data signals which are transmitted over the same channel. The quantization noise, generated by the companding process which is multiplicative (and asymmetric), degrades the detectability performance of the outermost points of the QAM constellation more than that of the inner points. The combined effect of the companding noise and the inherent white gaussian noise of the system, leads us to a re-examination of signal constellation design. This project allows you to learn communication systems in greater depth. It contains the Simulink files (*.mdl) which are block design files of various communication systems such as AM, DSB-SC, FM, PLL, Data Acquisition, Digital Data Transmission, PCM and Delta Modulation. The idea here is to implement experiments of a traditional communication lab using Simulink. Most of the block diagrams are self explanatory. Parses UK Profile 1.05/1.06 Object Carousel and saves files to disk (all stored under /tmp/cache at the moment). The files are the scripts and text/image data for MHEG5, the interactive(ish) element of digital TV. At the moment the MHEG scripts are not parsed, so to duplicate that interactive experience, speedy usage of "cat" and "xv" is recommended.

After the successful global introduction during the past decade of the second generation (2G) digital mobile communications systems, it seems that the third generation (3G) Universal Mobile Communication System (UMTS) has finally taken off, at least in some regions. The plethora of new services that are expected to be offered by this system requires the development of new paradigms in the way scarce radio resources should be managed. The Quality of Service (QoS) concept, which introduces in a natural way the service differentiation and the possibility of adapting the resource consumption to the specific service requirements, will open the door for the provision of advanced wireless services to the mass market.
