A MATLAB program has been written to investigate Orthogonal Frequency Division
Multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems. This program is valuable for future researchers
simulating systems that are too theoretically complex to analyze. Single-carrier QAM and multicarrier
OFDM are compared to DEMONSTRATE the strength of OFDM in multipath channels. Two
graphical user interface demonstrations show some of the basic concepts of OFDM.
Reconstruction- and example-based super-resolution
(SR) methods are promising for restoring a high-resolution
(HR) image from low-resolution (LR) image(s). Under large
magnification, reconstruction-based methods usually fail
to hallucinate visual details while example-based methods
sometimes introduce unexpected details. Given a generic
LR image, to reconstruct a photo-realistic SR image and
to suppress artifacts in the reconstructed SR image, we
introduce a multi-scale dictionary to a novel SR method
that simultaneously integrates local and non-local priors.
The local prior suppresses artifacts by using steering kernel regression to predict the target pixel from a small local
area. The non-local prior enriches visual details by taking
a weighted average of a large neighborhood as an estimate
of the target pixel. Essentially, these two priors are complementary to each other. Experimental results DEMONSTRATE
that the proposed method can produce high quality SR recovery both quantitatively and perceptually.
Firstly, this book is set at a level suitable for senior undergraduate and

of adaptive array antenna systems. Array fundamentals are described in the text,

This paper presents a new type of electromagnetic damper with rotating inertial mass that has been devel
oped to control the vibrations of structures subjected to earthquakes. The electromagnetic inertial mass
damper (EIMD) consists of a ball screw that converts axial oscillation of the rod end into rotational motion
of the internal flflywheel and an electric generator that is turned by the rotation of the inner rod. The EIMD is
able to generate a large inertial force created by the rotating flflywheel and a variable damping force devel
oped by the electric generator. Device performance tests of reduced-scale and full-scale EIMDs were under
taken to verify the basic characteristics of the damper and the validity of the derived theoretical formulae.
Shaking table tests of a three-story structure with EIMDs and earthquake response analyses of a building
with EIMDs were conducted to DEMONSTRATE the seismic response control performance of the EIMD. The
EIMD is able to reduce story drifts as well as accelerations and surpasses conventional types of dampers
in reducing acceleration responses.
Abstract: A sliding mode observer and fractional-order phase-locked loop (FO-PLL) method is proposed for the sensorless speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM).The saturation function is adopted in order to reduce the chattering phenomenon caused by the sliding mode observer. In this proposed FO-PLL, method, a regulable fractional order r is involved, which means that the FO-PLL provides an extra degree of freedom. In fact, the conventional phase-locked loop (PLL) applied in sensorless PMSM control can be seen as a special case of the proposed FO-PLL. By selecting a proper fractional order r a better performance may be achieved. The computer simulation results DEMONSTRATE the effectiveness of the proposed method.Key words: fractional calculus; fractional order phase-locked loop; sensorless control; sliding mode observer; permanent magnet synchronous motor; speed controll
