This Toolbox provides a number of functions that are useful in computer vision,
machine vision and related areas. It is a somewhat eclectic collection reflecting
the author s personal interest in areas of photometry, photogrammetry, colorimetry. It
covers functions such as image file reading and writing, filtering, segmentation,
feature extraction, camera calibration, camera exterior orientation, display,
color space conversion and blackbody radiators. The Toolbox, combined
with MATLAB and a modern workstation computer, is a useful and convenient
environment for investigation of machine vision algorithms. It is possible to use
MEX files to interface with image acquisition hardware ranging from simple
framegrabbers to Datacube servers.

The problem of image registration subsumes a number of problems and techniques in multiframe
image analysis, including the computation of optic flow (general pixel-based motion), stereo
correspondence, structure from motion, and feature tracking. We present a new registration
algorithm based on spline representations of the displacement field which can be specialized to
solve all of the above mentioned problems. In particular, we show how to compute local flow,
global (parametric) flow, rigid flow resulting from camera egomotion, and multiframe versions of
the above problems. Using a spline-based description of the flow removes the need for overlapping
correlation windows, and produces an explicit measure of the correlation between adjacent flow
estimates. We demonstrate our algorithm on multiframe image registration and the recovery of 3D
projective scene geometry. We also provide results on a number of standard motion sequences.

The four case studies that follow each have a number of common features. They each illustrate the birth of an idea and show how that idea can be realised into a marketable product. Each case study deals with engineering design and development issues and each highlights the importance of developing sound marketing strategies including market research. The importance of appropriate support mechanisms for young entrepreneurs is also covered. The case studies illustrate how successful entrepreneurs deploy a range of entrepreneurial skills and know-how.
