Boosting is a meta-learning approach that aims at combining an ensemble of weak classifiers to form a strong classifier. Adaptive Boosting (Adaboost) implements this idea as a greedy search for a linear combination of classifiers by overweighting the examples that are misclassified by each classifier. icsiboost implements Adaboost over stumps (one-level decision trees) on discrete and continuous attributes (words and real values). Our implementation is aimed at allowing training from millions of examples by hundreds of features in a reasonable time/memory.

Adaptive Filter. This script shows the BER performance of several types of equalizers in a static channel with a null in the passband. The script constructs and implements a linear equalizer object and a decision feedback equalizer (DFE) object. It also initializes and invokes a maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) equalizer. To fully utilize the available spectrum for a wireless communication system it is feasible to adapt to different situations on the channel. In this paper a flexible OFDM transmitter is presented together with basic theory behind OFDM transmission. It is shown that high flexibility can be obtained with a reasonable amount Flexible baseband transmitter for OFDM of additional hardware. In this demo, I use the EM algorithm with a Rauch-Tung-Striebel smoother and an M step, which I ve recently derived, to train a two-layer perceptron, so as to classify medical data (kindly provided by Steve Roberts and Will Penny from EE, Imperial College). The data and simulations are described in: Nando de Freitas, Mahesan Niranjan and Andrew Gee Nonlinear State Space Estimation with Neural Networks and the EM algorithm After downloading the file, type "tar -xf EMdemo.tar" to uncompress it. This creates the directory EMdemo containing the required m files. Go to this directory, load matlab5 and type "EMtremor". The figures will then show you the simulation results, including ROC curves, likelihood plots, decision boundaries with error bars, etc. WARNING: Do make sure that you monitor the log-likelihood and check that it is increasing. Due to numerical errors, it might show glitches for some data sets.
