This application note describes how the existing dual-port block memories in the Spartan™-IIand Virtex™ families can be used as Quad-Port memories. This essentially involves a dataaccess time (halved) versus functionality (doubled) trade-off. The overall bandwidth of the blockmemory in terms of bits per second will remain the same.

This project involves the design and implementation of a audio synthesis device that converts moving images into audio signals. The system is built on a TM320C54x DSP with interface to an IMAQ camera module via the serial port on a PC. Brief description: A LabVIEW VI acquires an image from the IMAQ camera module. It quantizes the image into a 5x5, 3-bit image, and sends the data to the TM320C54x DSP via a serial port. The TM320C54x DSP constructs a 64-tap FIR by combining a series of 64-tap head related transfer functions (HRTF) according to the incoming data, and then filters an input audio signal with this FIR filter, in effect creating a correspondence between the filtered signal and the original image.

In computer vision, sets of data acquired by sampling the same scene or object at different times, or from different perspectives, will be in different coordinate systems. Image registration is the process of transforming the different sets of data into one coordinate system. Registration is necessary in order to be able to compare or integrate the data obtained from different measurements. To be precise it involves finding transformations that relate spatial information conveyed in one image to that in another or in physical space. Image registration is performed on a series of at least two images, where one of these images is the reference image to which all the others will be registered. A large body of computer-aided techniques has been developed in recent years to assist
in the process of modeling, analyzing, and designing communication systems . These
computer-aided techniques fall into two categories: formula-based approaches, where the
computer is used to evaluate complex formulas, and simulation-based approaches, where the
computer is used to simulate the waveforms or signals that flow through the system. The
second approach, which involves “waveform”-level simulation (and often incorporates
analytical techniques), is the subject of this book.
Since performance evaluation and trade off studies are the central issues in the analysis
and design of communication systems, we will focus on the use of simulation for evaluating

The Internet of Things is considered to be the next big opportunity, and challenge, for the
Internet engineering community, users of technology, companies and society as a whole. It
involves connecting embedded devices such as sensors, home appliances, weather stations
and even toys to Internet Protocol (IP) based networks. The number of IP-enabled embedded
devices is increasing rapidly, and although hard to estimate, will surely outnumber the
number of personal computers (PCs) and servers in the future. With the advances made over
the past decade in microcontroller,low-power radio, battery and microelectronic technology,
the trend in the industry is for smart embedded devices (called smart objects) to become
IP-enabled, and an integral part of the latest services on the Internet. These services are no
longer cyber, just including data created by humans, but are to become very connected to the
physical world around us by including sensor data, the monitoring and control of machines,
and other kinds of physical context. We call this latest frontier of the Internet, consisting of
wireless low-power embedded devices, the Wireless Embedded Internet. Applications that
this new frontier of the Internet enable are critical to the sustainability, efficiency and safety
of society and include home and building automation, healthcare, energy efficiency, smart
grids and environmental monitoring to name just a few.
