Robustnesstochangesinilluminationconditionsaswellas viewing perspectives is an important requirement formany computer vision applications. One of the key fac-ors in enhancing the robustness of dynamic scene analy-sis that of accurate and reliable means for shadow de-ection. Shadowdetectioniscriticalforcorrectobjectde-ection in image sequences. Many algorithms have beenproposed in the literature that deal with shadows. How-ever,acomparativeevaluationoftheexistingapproachesisstill lacking. In this paper, the full range of problems un-derlyingtheshadowdetectionareidenti?edanddiscussed.Weclassifytheproposedsolutionstothisproblemusingaaxonomyoffourmainclasses, calleddeterministicmodeland non-model based and statistical parametric and non-parametric. Novelquantitative(detectionanddiscrimina-ionaccuracy)andqualitativemetrics(sceneandobjectin-dependence,?exibilitytoshadowsituationsandrobustnesso noise) are proposed to evaluate these classes of algo-rithms on a benchmark suite of indoor and outdoor videosequences.

JLAB is a set of Matlab functions I have written or co-written over the past fifteen years for the purpose of analyzing data. It consists of four hundred m-files spanning thirty thousand lines of code. JLAB includes functions ranging in complexity from one-line aliases to high-level algorithms for certain specialized tasks. These have been collected together and made publicly available for you to use, modify, and --- subject to certain very reasonable constraints --- to redistribute. Some of the highlights are: a suite of functions for the rapid manipulation of multi-component, potentially multi-dimensional datasets a systematic way of dealing with datasets having components of non-uniform length tools for fine-tuning figures using compact, straightforward statements and specialized functions for spectral and time / frequency analysis, including advanced wavelet algorithms developed by myself and collaborators.

Enclosed in this distribution are four projects: MD5DLLTest: Visual basic project which runs the MD5 test suite against a MD5 DLL (see below). VbMD5: A Visual Basic native MD5 message digest class based on the RSA reference implementation. md5DLL: A C project which generates a simple Win32 DLL with the MD5 message digest routines using the RSA reference implementation.
