In 1960, R.E. Kalman published his famous paper describing a recursive solution to the discretedata
linear filtering problem [Kalman60]. Since that time, due in large part to advances in digital
computing, the
Kalman filter
has been the subject of extensive Research and application,
particularly in the area of autonomous or assisted navigation. A very “friendly” introduction to the
general idea of the Kalman filter can be found in Chapter 1 of [Maybeck79], while a more complete
introductory discussion can be found in [Sorenson70], which also contains some interesting
historical narrative.

Introduction to the C++ exception handling mechanisms and “resource acquisition is initialization” for people with little experience with exceptions
IT++ is a C++ library of mathematical, signal processing and communication system routines/functions. Its main use is in simulation of communication systems or for performing Research in the area of communications.
To date tests are still the best solution mankind has found to deliver working software.
This book is the sum of four years of Research and practice in the testing
field. The practice comes from my IT consulting background, first at Octo Technology
and then at Pivolis the Research comes from my involvement with open
source development at night and on weekends.
Foreword
The four case studies that follow each have a number of common features. They each illustrate the birth of an idea and show how that idea can be realised into a marketable product. Each case study deals with engineering design and development issues and each highlights the importance of developing sound marketing strategies including market Research. The importance of appropriate support mechanisms for young entrepreneurs is also covered. The case studies illustrate how successful entrepreneurs deploy a range of entrepreneurial skills and know-how. Above all, the entrepreneurs are seen to have the capacity to innovate and exercise vision.
