This paper shows the development of a 1024-point radix-4 FFT VHDL core for applications in hardware signal processing, targeting low-cost FPGA technologies. The developed core is targeted into a Xilinx廬 Spartan鈩?3 XC3S200 FPGA with the inclusion of a VGA display interface and an external 16-bit data acquisition system for performance evaluation purposes. Several tests were performed in order to verify FFT core functionality, besides the time performance analysis highlights the core advantages over commercially available DSPs and Pentium-based PCs. The core is compared with similar third party IP cores targeting resourceful FPGA technologies. The novelty of this work is to provide a lowcost, resource efficient core for spectrum analysis applications.

In computer vision, sets of data acquired by sampling the same scene or object at different times, or from different perspectives, will be in different coordinate systems. Image registration is the process of transforming the different sets of data into one coordinate system. pHash is an implementation of various perceptual hashing algorithms. A perceptual hash is a fingerprint of an audio, video, or image file that is mathematically based on the audio or visual content contained within. Unlike cryptographic hash functions that rely on the avalanche effect of small changes in input leading to drastic changes in the output, perceptual hashes are "close" to one another if the inputs are visually or auditorily similar. As a result, perceptual hashes must also be robust enough to take into account transformations that could have been performed on the input.

Sensing and planning are at the core of robot motion. Traditionally, mobile robots have been used for performing various tasks with a general-purpose processor on-board. This book grew out of our research enquiry into alternate architectures for sensor-based robot motion. It describes our research starting early 2002 with the objectives of obtaining a time, space and energy-efficient solution for processing sensor data for various robotic tasks. New algorithms and architectures have been developed for exploration and other aspects of robot motion. The research has also resulted in design and fabrication of an FPGA-based mobile robot equipped with ultrasonic sensors. Numerous experiments with the FPGA-based mobile robot have also been performed and they confirm the efficacy of the alternate architecture.

Behavioral models are used in games and computer graphics for realistic simulation of massive crowds. In this paper, we present a GPU based implementation of Reynolds [1987] algorithm for simulating flocks of birds and propose an extension to consider environment self occlusion. We performed several experiments and the results showed that the proposed approach runs up to three times faster than the original algorithm when simulating high density crowds, without compromising significantly the original crowd behavior.

Matlab 畫三維立體圖形 The aim of geom3d library is to handle and visualize 3D geometric primitives such as points, lines, planes, polyhedra... It provides low-level functions for manipulating 3D geometric primitives, making easier the development of more complex geometric algorithms. Some features of the library are: - creation of various shapes (3D points, 3D lines, planes, polyhedra...) through an intuitive syntax. Ex: createPlane(p1, p2, p3) to create a plane through 3 points. - derivation of new shapes: intersection between 2 planes, intersection between a plane and a line, between a sphere and a line... - functions for 3D polygons and polyhedra. Polyhedra use classical vertex-faces arrays (face array contain indices of vertices), and support faces with any number of vertices. Some basic models are provided (createOctaedron, createCubeoctaedron...), as well as some computation (like faceNormal or centroid) - manipulation of planar transformation. Ex.: ROT = createRotationOx(THETA); P2 = transformPoint3d(P1, ROT); - direct drawing of shapes with specialized functions. Clipping is performed automatically for infinite shapes such as lines or rays. Ex: drawPoint3d([50 50 25; 20 70 10], 'ro'); % draw some points drawLine3d([X0 Y0 Z0 DX DY DZ]); % clip and draw straight line Some functions require the geom2d package. Additional help is provided in geom3d/Contents.m file, as well as summary files like 'points3d.m' or 'lines3d.m'.

This books presents the research work of COST 273 Towards Mobile Broadband Multimedia Networks, hence, it reports on the work performed and on the results achieved within the project by its participants. TodayIamsimulatingonacomputerthathasa2.6-GHzprocessorwith 512 MB of RAM, and I would still say that simulations run too slow. The computer technology has evolved, but so have the models. In 1996 wewereperformingsimulationson100-kHzpowerconverters,whereas today I routinely see 1- and 2-MHz power converters.
