Software-defined radios (SDRs) have been around for more than a decade. The
first complete Global Positioning System (GPS) implementation was described
by Dennis Akos in 1997. Since then several research groups have presented their
contributions. We therefore find it timely to publish an up-to-date text on the subject
and at the same time include Galileo, the forthcoming European satellitebased
navigation system. Both GPS and Galileo belong to the category of Global
Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).
QuickSteps books are recipe books for computer users. They answer the
question 揌ow do I...??by providing a quick set of steps to accomplish the
most common tasks with a particular program. The sets of steps are the
central focus of the book. Sidebar QuickSteps provide information on how to
do quickly many small functions or tasks that are in support of the primary
functions. Sidebar QuickFacts supply information that you need to know about
a subject. Notes, Tips, and Cautions augment the steps, but they are presented
in a separate column to not interrupt the fl ow. Brief introductions are present,
but there is minimal narrative otherwise. Many illustrations and fi gures, a
number with callouts, are also included where they support the steps.
This book covers the fundamental concepts of data mining, to demonstrate the potential of gathering large sets of data, and analyzing these data sets to gain useful business understanding. The book is organized in three parts. Part I introduces concepts. Part II describes and demonstrates basic data mining algorithms. It also contains chapters on a number of different techniques often used in data mining. Part III focusses on business applications of data mining. Methods are presented with simple examples, applications are reviewed, and relativ advantages are evaluated.
Designing a synchronous finite state machine (FSM) is a common task for a digital
logic engineer. This paper discusses a variety of issues regarding FSM design using
Synopsys Design Compiler. Verilog and VHDL coding styles are presented, and
different methodologies are compared using real-world examples.
In this work an implementation of a geometric nonlinear controller for chaos synchronization in a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is presented. The Lorenz chaotic system is used to show the implementation of chaos synchronization via nonlinear controller implemented in a Xilinx FPGA Virtex-II 2v2000ft896-4. The main idea is to design a nonlinear geometric controller which synchronizes a slave Lorenz system to a master system and then implement them into the FPGA.

Abstract—Stable direct and indirect decentralized adaptive radial basis
neural network controllers are presented for a class of interconnected
nonlinear systems. The feedback and adaptation mechanisms for each
subsystem depend only upon local measurements to provide asymptotic
tracking of a reference trajectory. Due to the functional approximation
capabilities of radial basis neural networks, the dynamics for each
subsystem are not required to be linear in a set of unknown coeffi cients
as is typically required in decentralized adaptive schemes. In addition,
each subsystem is able to adaptively compensate for disturbances and
interconnections with unknown bounds.
The potential of solving real-time demanding industrial applications, using vision-based
algorithms, drastically grew due to an increasing availability of computational power.
In this thesis a novel real-time, vision-based Blackjack analysis system is presented. The
embedding of the vision algorithms in a compound system of other information sources such
as an electronic chip tray, reduces the vision task to detect cards and chips. Robust results
are achieved by not just analyzing single frames but an image stream regarding game-ß ow
informations. The requirements for such a system are a highly robust and adaptive behav-
ior. This is motivated by the vital interest of casino entrepreneurs in a 100 statistical
analysis of their offered gambling in order to support the business plan, measuring table
and dealer performance and give accurate player rating. Extensive experiments show the
robustness and applicability of the proposed system.
The Open Radar Data Acquisition (ORDA)
subsystem replaces the current WSR-88D Radar
Data Acquisition subsystem with improved
receiver and signal processing hardware and with
improved user interface, signal processing and
diagnostics software. This paper will discuss the
input data from the digital receiver, the ORDA
signal processing, and the data output from the
ORDA hardware. Specifications of the ORDA
digital receiver will be presented. The paper
outlines the critical radar signal processing flow
and provides analysis of new spectrum width
computations and clutter filtering schemes used in
the ORDA system. Where appropriate, ORDA
performance enhancements, data quality
improvements and reliability and maintenance
improvements will be highlighted.
